There are simply two types of actors, one who strives for the rewards.. while the other simply wants to tell a story.
As a Muslim-American it is extremely hard to be in the entertainment business. In the Islamic culture it is considered a sin for a female to be part of the entertainment business, they are looked down upon and unfortunately sometimes considered as .. (as much as I don't like the word).. "whore".
As a child I was thought good from bad, right from wrong and it was also important to share your good knowledge with others and to spread the love. Therefore whether your Muslim, Jewish, Christian/Catholic, Hindu/Sikh etc .. at the end of the day we share the same moral values.
In life we are surrounded by these moral values and themes in different formats without even realized it.
We are surrounded by it in various ways for instance Music, every song, every lyric has a message behind it, whether it be a love song or even a reminder of a heartbreak. Art, every piece of art work has a message behind it and most art works can certainly be interpreted in many ways .. For instance Vincent Van Gogh artwork had a extinguish way of expressing rough beauty of our society. A Novel, certainly reveal many moral themes. Whether its literature or Music all these content has its audience walk away with something. A message to remember.
And that is where the beauty of theatre comes in. Behind every line, behind every scene there is a message to be cherished. A theme, a moral that the audience will interpret in their own way and walk away with it. And that's simply one of the many reasons why I, A Muslim American choose to be an actress. Because I can share a piece of my message through art, through our story on stage or on set I can express the theme, the moral value or message. Because every piece of art whether it be a film, a song, an artwork will always have a message for the audience to cherish. And I hope to spread that beauty through theatre on stage, through the directors script, between every line and every emotion I yearn for the message to be expresses for the audience to walk away with.
Whether it be for two eyes, or two million eyes, on stage or in front of the camera. Acting is a passion of mine, with a burning desire.
